During the summer of COVID-19, my sophomore year, I participated in an event called Summer Scholars. My Summer Scholar research was about how Plus-Size is being taught in the fashion industry. My professor guided me to focus on articles and journals that will benefit my research. I learned how to grade plus-size patterns. I learned that the way the industry grades plus-size garments is not accurate. The industry grades plus-size garments in the wrong places. I learned from articles from current Plus-size brands, like Universal Standard and Lane Bryant, on how to properly grade garments. With this research and knowledge, I created my plus-size patterns to use for the rest of my life.
